In this Lunch and Learn, Dr. Matt Dube will discuss an innovative approach to analyzing potential redistricting plans against counterfactual samples, an important step in the decadal process of reapportionment which the country will be engaged in for the next year. This talk will detail research that has been conducted for the past five years between the University of Maine, the University of Maine at Augusta, and MIT.
Presenter bio:
Dr. Matt Dube is Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems and Data Science at the University of Maine at Augusta and cooperates with the University of Maine Graduate School and the Environmental and Biological Science Division at the University of Maine at Machias. His research work focuses on applications of geographic principles to numerous situations, including congressional/legislative redistricting, spatial query mechanisms, and community needs assessments.
